Beginning in the fall of 2024, Alamo Heights High School will launch the Early College High School and P-TECH (Pathway in Technology Early College High School) at Alamo Heights.
An Early College High School (ECHS) provides students with up to 60 college credit hours free of charge and substantial support to guide them into an Associate of Arts degree. It is an opportunity for students to blend high school and college in a coherent, personalized, and rigorous education program provided in partnership with St. Philip’s College.
Through the P-TECH program with a pathway in teaching, students will earn an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree and engage in valuable work-based learning experiences in order to earn an industry certification in teaching (paraprofessional) along with opportunities for paid internships.
College credits earned during high school are designed to be transferred to a four-year institution.
“These programs will provide a transformative educational experience where students seamlessly bridge high school and college and embark on a path to lifelong learning and success,” said Cory Smith, AHHS Principal.
All college level courses will be taught by AHISD teachers and students will still be able to participate in Fine Arts, Athletics, and activities offered at AHHS.
Current eighth graders are eligible to apply. They must be in good academic standing, have a strong attendance record, submit an application packet, and complete a Summer Bridge program that will be hosted in AHISD July 22-26, 2024.
Students accepted into the program will begin taking college level courses as ninth graders.
Applications for the 2024-25 school year close the first week of December.
