Gifted & Talented (High School)

Students NEW to Alamo Heights ISD in grades 9 - 11 who desire to seek GT placement will be tested during the summer (typically in August) prior to the new school year. Current AHISD 9th - 11th grade students may also test in August if they desire to be considered for GT courses. (Current AHISD 8th grade students should test at the Junior School during their stated testing dates.)

Students may begin signing up for testing AFTER they are pre–registered and/or registered for the upcoming school year. A GT Testing Permission Form (link at bottom of page) must be submitted by the established deadline to sign up for testing.

Please note that students take the entire CogAT battery, as well as the Iowa subject areas (Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies) that align with their GT interests. The CogAT assessment typcially takes 1.5 - 2 hours, while the Iowa assessment can take up to 4 hours depending on the different subtests the student is taking.

* GT testing occurs across multiple days, so the testing will be split with CogAT on one day and Iowa on another day.

The High School GT Coordinator is Mr. Joseph Holzmann (Assistant Principal). For additional information, please contact the High School Assistant Principal’s Office at 210-820-8850.
